Year 2016 | Final year masters project
About this project
Envisioning a future of connected vehicles providing smart experiences for on-demand mobility needs
The project aims to intervene within automotive industry to bridge the disconnect between technology and user needs and demands
Recognition
I was selected to present 'GetAccess' at the New York TNS Design Symposium. It was also shortlisted among top student works at Parsons SDM 2017 and published on the university website.
What's happening with Automotive industry?
New Mobility Services, though has seen a rising growth globally over the years, only few initiatives have had an impact on the industry as a whole.
The real potential could be very large, but little is known about its markets, viability and experiences for the people
Ecosystem mapping

How OEM's view the industry transformation from an organisational stand point
As Mobility services are changing the landscape of perception around cars, Few OEM's are still in 'Do what we can do best' phase, where they are reluctant to change the business standpoint, while others are adapting to the change and making their business models agile.
User research and ethnographic studies
Conducting on-field research studies, extrapolating and analysing innate user aspirations around internet of cars
I did ethnographic studies across New York city with many people in their own environment, primarily to understand what they think about car ownership and finances, status of symbol, mobility convenience and their optimism towards future of personal mobility.

Observational Video
Identifying the underlying problem and scope
Looking from 3 perspectives:
People (End Users), Service providers (Tech & Services) and OEM (Automotive giants)
Automotive industry has experienced one of the largest strategic shifts in car history. Various services are rising up to the new generation mobility (smart vehicles & networked cars), technology and digital networking to develop shared mobility services with innovative business models

Strategic inquiry and process
Identifying voids of opportunity through systemic intervention and innovative approaches
The project aims to realise this changing automotive landscape and develop an opportunity for smart mobility experiences for the upcoming and future generations with the process of design thinking, service innovation and for designing innovative business models

A strategic service model

Conceptual model of service
Below is the conceptual model of the entire scope of the service. The iterative service cycle looks at range of functionalities that go in systemic intervention to identify the most impact-full nodes. The three stages of Plug in, Mobility solutions and Match Making have been strategically mapped out in the proposed systems model to understand and apply key strategic solutions. Each of the nodes will be innovated further, to identify and interrelate the parts of the system for a holistic service design.
